Breathwork is a powerful somatic ally both for supporting the body through emotional wound emergence and for expanding our capacity to meet these sensations that arise as we begin to challenge limiting narratives, beliefs and social conditioning.

With the breath we can bypass the "thinking" brain and directly access the autonomic nervous system, where many unprocessed emotions are held somatically. Through the breath we can create a pathway for these held emotions to surface.

Origins of Breathwork

The practise of breathwork is rooted in ancient indigenous wisdom which spans across the globe as well as timelines. From yogic pranayama to native American shamanic rituals, amongst many others, control of the breath has been viewed as a sacred practice for harnessing vitality, directing life force energy & connecting with both the spirit world & the rhythms of the natural world. Practised in ceremony participants often enter trance like meditative states and emerge feeling revitalised, enlightened & emotionally balanced. Over the years many different approaches to breathwork have been developed including Holotropic, Wim Hof method etc. Whatever the method of breathwork adopted, it is important always to acknowledge the sacred ancient roots & medicinal wisdom as a part of the ritual itself.
